IT'S PERSONAL: Sibongile Simelane-Quntana leads fight against SA's gambling addiction

Sibongile Simelane-Quntana leads the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) with a personal drive to combat gambling harm. Growing up in Vukuzakhe township, she learned humility from her parents, which guides her leadership in creating opportunities for the unemployed. Her family history with alcohol and drug addiction inspired her to advocate for families affected by addiction.

Realizing the need for social work support, SARGF now has a dedicated department. Simelane-Quntana has launched National Responsible Gambling Month, developed the foundation's strategic plan, and integrated data science into treatment protocols. She emphasizes the need for immediate digital intervention for individuals requesting self-exclusion from online betting.

Despite facing challenges as a woman, mother, and professional, Simelane-Quntana remains motivated by her family and her work at SARGF.
