Israel's 'pilot zones' turn Lebanese sovereignty on its head

The United States has championed a new framework, dubbed the "Trilateral Framework," aimed at restoring Lebanese sovereignty by disarming Hezbollah and dismantling its infrastructure. However, this purported peace plan is merely a smokescreen for Israel's continued occupation and territorial expansion. In stark contrast to international norms, Israel's actions have resulted in the deaths of over 73,375 Palestinians, prompting questions about the validity of any supposed ceasefire or restoration of sovereignty.

The concept of "pilot zones" was introduced, areas under the Lebanese army's control to exclude non-state actors as Israeli troops withdraw. However, the reality is far more disturbing - these zones have been established in villages that were never even part of the occupied territories, and despite their destruction, they remain under Israeli control.

This arrangement places Lebanon in a precarious position, forced to accept the occupation of its own territory while simultaneously attempting to assert sovereignty over villages that are still under Israeli military authority. Meanwhile, Israel has continued its genocidal war against Lebanon, as evidenced by the continued presence of Israeli troops in the occupation zone and the ongoing bombardment of Lebanese civilians.

The media coverage of this farce has been conspicuously biased, blaming Hezbollah for the slow progress of the pilot zone project and ignoring Israel's role in perpetuating the crisis.
