Iran to restore 95 mcm/day of gas production by end-September

Iran plans to restore 95 million cubic metres (mcm) of gas production capacity per day by the end of September, according to the country's oil ministry. This comes as Tehran works on repairing energy infrastructure that was damaged during the ongoing conflict with Israel and the United States. In July, a senior government official had predicted that Iran would recover around 100 mcm/day of natural gas production capacity within the coming months, following a significant decrease in output due to attacks since late February.

The Oil Minister, Mohsen Paknejad, revealed that 95 mcm/day of lost capacity would be recovered after the damage to gas-processing facilities in Assaluyeh, a southern Iranian port town. He stated that the impact was largely offset by utilizing spare capacity at other gas-processing plants. Reconstruction of the four damaged gas-processing plants is progressing rapidly, with debris cleared, reconstruction systems in place, and contractors already working on the project.

Paknejad claimed that the reconstruction would be completed ahead of schedule, allowing all the lost capacity to be returned to the production network.

However, it should be noted that some of the restored capacity may not be available during the winter months. Consequently, Iran will need to manage both gas supply and consumption carefully to prevent challenges in meeting demand during this period.
