Iran says Hormuz to stay closed until conditions met

Iranian-backed Houthi rebels launched fresh assaults on government-controlled regions in Yemen on Tuesday, raising concerns of a renewed civil war and potential disruptions to regional shipping lanes. Iran's foreign minister emphasized Iran's stance against reopening the Strait of Hormuz until the United States meets its demands, after U.S. President Donald Trump demanded Iran compensate the country for "all of the people that they have killed" in the past.

Meanwhile, the Houthis struck the Red Sea port city of Mokha and other areas, killing at least seven people, including three troops. With the Strait of Hormuz effectively closed by Iran, shipping lanes through the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait have become crucial for Saudi Arabia to transport its oil. The Houthi attacks could reignite Yemen's civil war, which ended in 2022, and create a new front in the Middle East conflict.
