IPL stars David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen set for ILT20 debuts, all UAE players to be part of auction

The International Cricket League's T20 tournament, known as the ILT20, is set to introduce significant changes ahead of its fifth season. All six participating teams will be allowed to make four signings ahead of a player auction on October 1, which will largely determine their squads. The biggest changes come from the new rules regarding UAE players, who will be part of the auction.

All six teams must include a minimum of 11 players from Test-playing nations, including four from Afghanistan and one from Ireland. Four UAE players, each with at least one cap and one Under-23, must also be included, with two of them in the starting XI. Importantly, no UAE players can be retained or signed directly, but teams can bid for them during the auction.

This rule change is expected to create a bidding frenzy for UAE players. The tournament, which runs from November 22 to December 20, is scheduled to start after Australia's Big Bash League and before South Africa's SA20. However, the schedule could potentially impact which UAE players are available for sign. The new rules have also raised concerns among some franchises about not being adequately rewarded for developing UAE players.

Despite these challenges, there are promising opportunities for UAE players, with some like Junaid Siddique and Mohammed Rohid already securing lucrative deals through the auction process last year. The tournament's timing also poses a risk, as UAE players may miss significant portions of the league due to national team commitments, including the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off.

Notably, Muhammad Waseem, the country's leading T20 player and a standout performer in the ILT20, could be a significant addition to a team if he is available. Notable UAE players expected to attract significant interest during the auction include Aayan Khan, Sohaib Khan, and Khuzaima Tanveer.
