Insurance Authority launches innovation platform, opens regulatory sandbox registration

The Insurance Authority has unveiled its inaugural phase of an innovation platform designed to assist startups and innovators operating within the insurance sector. This was announced in Riyadh on Tuesday, as part of the broader National Insurance Sector Strategy initiatives. The primary objective of this platform is to provide a flexible and secure regulatory environment that allows for the testing of new insurance products and services, all under the close supervision of the authority.

This move by the Insurance Authority is in line with its role as the sector's regulator and supervisor, and underscores the commitment to fostering a competitive landscape that encourages innovation. By doing so, the authority aims to provide promising ideas with the opportunity to grow and be implemented within the insurance market.

The first phase of the platform includes the opening of applications for the regulatory sandbox, a program launched by the authority previously to serve as an enabling framework for innovative initiatives.

The innovation platform will offer a variety of advisory services and training programs specifically tailored to startups and innovators. These resources are aimed at accelerating the adoption of modern technological solutions and enhancing the sector's overall ability to keep pace with changes in the insurance industry, both domestically and internationally.
