In Kashmir, ex-boyfriend sent drugs to newlywed’s home, tipped off police

In Kashmir, a former boyfriend of a newlywed woman conspired to have him arrested for drug trafficking. The plot involved sending narcotics to the unsuspecting husband's home in Ganderbal district. The police received a tip-off about a consignment of drugs being couriered from outside Jammu and Kashmir. The package, containing cocaine, cannabis, and psychotropic drugs, was intercepted at Ganderbal's post office.

Upon opening the parcel, authorities discovered four kilograms of cocaine, 80 grams of cannabis, and other controlled substances. The poultry farmer, who had recently married, was tricked into believing the parcel contained poultry feed. The sender, identified as Tariq Ahmad Sofi, had contacted the farmer via WhatsApp, promising to send samples of feed.

The farmer later informed the police that he had received a warning call from a Saudi Arabian number, advising him against proceeding with his marriage. This revelation prompted the investigation to explore a conspiracy angle. Sofi, the former boyfriend, had arranged the parcel through his friend, Areeb, living in Saudi Arabia. Sofi admitted to tipping off the police, but claimed his actions were taken at Areeb's insistence.

Areeb, though originally from Kanpur, had been residing in Saudi Arabia for some time. Police are now investigating Areeb's role to determine if he was aware of the drugs' contents or merely a facilitator in the scheme.
