Here’s What ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Changed From the Book

In the third season of "House of the Dragon," several significant alterations were made from George R.R. Martin's original source material to create the HBO series. One of the most notable changes was the Great Betrayal during the Battle of Tumbleton, where Ulf the White and Hugh Hammer both unleashed their dragons on the opposing army.

However, unlike Martin's books, Ulf was portrayed as the main betrayer in the series. Additionally, Corlys Velaryon, also known as the Sea Snake, was kidnapped by the Hightowers and held prisoner at Tumbleton, a storyline not present in the books. In the show, Aegon Targaryen's journey across the Riverlands was extended, and he decided to make a final stand against forces headed to Tumbleton.

Aemond Targaryen, who was never mentioned in the books, had an incestuous relationship with his mother, Alicent Hightower, which was a new addition to the show. Lastly, Rhaena Targaryen, who replaced Nettles in the series, faced challenges after her untrained dragon hindered her during the battle, ultimately leading to her hiding and further distancing herself from Daemon.
