Speaking to journalists in Katsina, Comrade Ibrahim Balange, Chairman of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria, explained that the ultimatum, effective since August 11, 2026, was issued after numerous attempts to negotiate with the government proved unsuccessful.
Balange stated that the health professionals are demanding the immediate implementation of the full Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) in federal health institutions, as well as discontinuing CONHESS 10 stipulations from previous government circulars. Other issues include raising the hazard allowance to 100 percent, increasing call duty, shift, clinical, and non-clinical allowances, and boosting nurses' uniform allowance to N80,000, similar to federal health institutions.
Balange emphasized that the demands are aimed at improving workers' welfare and motivation, which would enhance healthcare delivery in Katsina State. He warned that if the government fails to meet these demands within the 21-day period, health workers will have no choice but to strike, which could disrupt healthcare services.
