Havelock Palace apologises after cooking foraged seafood from Changi Beach

Havelock Palace has issued an apology after cooking seafood that was foraged in large quantities at Changi Beach. The Chinese restaurant faced online criticism and negative Google reviews following a video showing a group of individuals collecting various marine life, including crabs and clams, in large quantities before bringing them to Havelock Palace to be prepared.

The incident sparked backlash against the foragers, who disbanded subsequently, as well as Havelock Palace. A Facebook post by Member of Parliament Valerie Lee, who oversees the Changi division for Pasir Ris–Changi GRC, called the video deplorable, stating that the matter extends beyond legality and highlights a lack of respect for animals, ecosystems, and ancient foraging traditions.

In response to the controversy, Havelock Palace acknowledged responsibility and vowed to enhance its procedures, including stringent food sourcing, improved supplier documentation, prohibition of unverified food sources, and refresher training on food safety and proper handling for their staff.
