Grinspoon Singer Phil Jamieson Cancels Solo Tour After Fracturing His Back On Stage: ‘No One Is More Bummed About This Than Me’

Singer Phil Jamieson, lead vocalist of Australian rock band Grinspoon, has had to cancel his solo tour across Australia due to a back injury incurred during a recent performance. On Friday, Aug. 7, while playing at The Deck Traralgon, Jamieson slipped on stage and collided with the drum riser, fracturing his lower back (L1) and subsequently fracturing his spine.

The 49-year-old musician was rushed to Latrobe Hospital, where he spent most of the day undergoing various tests. After confirming the fracture, he was advised to rest and brace for a lengthy recovery period. The news of the cancellation has left Jamieson disheartened, admitting on Instagram that "no one is more bummed about this than me."

While fans are yet to receive details on how refunds will be handled, the singer assured them that they will not regret listening to his new solo album, 10Charlie. The album is set to release on Aug. 14, and despite the cancellation of the tour and the launch party, Jamieson encourages fans to give the album a listen, expressing his love for the work he poured into it.

Jamieson's official website has been updated to reflect the cancellation, but an Instagram post from June revealed the full list of tour dates, which included support from Ricky Albeck and Nici Ward through Sept. 12 at Magnums in Queensland. The grungy rocker has been fronting Grinspoon since 1995, releasing eight albums to date, including their latest, Whatever, Whatever, in 2024.
