Govt Decision on New NBP President Expected This Week

The interview phase for the newly appointed President of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has concluded, with nine individuals participating before a panel chaired by the Federal Minister for Finance, according to sources. The government is anticipated to announce the new NBP president later in the week, pending approval from the federal cabinet.

Among the interviewed candidates were Ali Muhammad Mahoon, Farrukh Iqbal, and Rehmat Ali Hasni, alongside Hassan Raza, Muhammad Abdullah, Shehram Raza, Mudassar Khan, Zafar Masud, and Imran Sarwar. The interviews were carried out by a panel led by the Finance Minister as part of the government's selection procedure for the next NBP president.

The incumbent NBP President, Rehmat Ali Hasni, who held the position until August 6, has been granted a two-week extension to facilitate a smooth transition until his successor is confirmed. The government intends to choose the candidate based on the panel's recommendations, with the final appointment subject to the necessary approval process.
