Government told to provide adequate resources for the teaching of ICT in schools

The Association of District Information and Communication Technology (ICT) coordinators in Ghana's Greater Accra region has urged the government to provide all pre-tertiary schools nationwide with the necessary ICT tools and resources to improve teaching and learning. Mr. Felix Kwaku Hini, the association's chairman, emphasized that such a move would ensure equal access to quality education for all learners, regardless of their location.

While recognizing the government's recent efforts in distributing ICT tools across schools, Mr. Hini stressed the need for more resources, particularly in rural areas where computers and internet services are scarce. This plea was made at the conclusion of a two-day capacity-building workshop organized by the Uniwiz Foundation, a Ghana-based ICT advocacy group, in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The workshop aimed to provide advanced tools, practical skills, and strategies to strengthen educational technology across Ghana. Uniwiz Foundation's CEO, Mr. Larry Wisdom Quarme-Doe, highlighted the importance of investing in educators to drive digital literacy, as technology has become the backbone of modern learning. The Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Simeone Giger, applauded the initiative, emphasizing the need for continuous professional development in the rapidly evolving field of ICT.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Hajia Katumi Natongmah Attah, thanked all partners for their support and urged participants to utilize their newly acquired knowledge to train the nation's workforce.
