Germany scoops three spots on list of Europe's most beautiful ice cream parlours

Three German ice cream parlours have been named among Europe’s most beautiful, according to Architectural Digest's latest list. The prestigious magazine, which focuses on architecture, interiors and design, evaluated the venues based on their overall experience, including architecture, interior design and atmosphere. The three standout German parlours are located in Berlin, Frankfurt and Nuremberg.

Early Bird Gelato in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, secured the second place spot on the list. The magazine praised the shop's striking strawberry-coloured counter, designed by Berlin studio About Space, and small seating islands crafted from pigmented ash. Early Bird Gelato's specialty is its diverse menu, featuring unique flavors such as Greek yoghurt, baklava, Peruvian chocolate, and peanut butter and jelly.

Antipodean Gelato in Frankfurt’s Nordend district came in third. The shop received praise for its emphasis on transparency, with a large window allowing customers to view the production kitchen. Antipodean Gelato was founded by Rachel, originally from Australia, and has quickly gained a cult following for its fresh, flavour-forward gelato made with ingredients like Mallorca lemons, Italian pistachios, and Valrhona chocolate.

Nuremberg’s Bonbon ranked fourth on the list. The magazine highlighted the playful interior design, created by Berlin studio Mekado, featuring four colourful modular counters that resemble vintage ice cream vans, and textured plaster walls that mimic the creamy texture of ice cream. Bonbon's ice cream is made with seasonal ingredients and locally sourced milk, with changing flavors ranging from brown butter and carrot cake to blueberry-violet.
