George de Rock remembered as devoted father and husband after tragic birthday run

George de Rock, a devoted father, husband, trail-running enthusiast, transition coach and mentor, tragically passed away on August 6, 2022, after falling during a 47km birthday challenge in Constantia Nek, Cape Town. Friends and fellow runners are mourning his sudden death, remembering him not only for his endurance and achievements but for his kindness, support, and the impact he had on others.

Grant Powell, a fellow runner, expressed his heartache and admiration for George's dedication to his family, noting that he made people feel special. Powell emphasized George's commitment to his family, stating that his love shone through his posts and videos. Craig Kloppers, another friend, found it difficult to comprehend the loss, particularly due to the young family George leaves behind.

He also remembered George as a deeply involved father whose love for his family was evident in his online presence. Dean Horwitz, who met George twice, described him as a supportive friend who shared a common understanding of living with a chronic condition. Horwitz praised George for offering comfort through his health struggles and expressed his intention to carry George's memory and inspiration whenever he returns to running.

Horwitz highlighted George's chronic condition and their promise to run together once he was able. The trail-running community mourns George's loss, recognizing his determination and willingness to encourage others.
