Gemini app hits 1 billion monthly users, Google teases what’s next

Google has announced that over 1 billion people are using the Gemini app every month, marking it as the company's fastest growing product yet. CEO Sundar Pichai revealed the milestone, noting that Gemini is among Google's 14 products to reach this achievement, joining Search, Gmail, Android, Maps, Chrome, Play, and YouTube. In May of 2025, the app had 400 million monthly active users, which increased to 900 million a year later, and another 50 million by late July.

Gemini app vice president Josh Woodward shared insights into what Google has learned from the first billion users and what's coming next. Over 10% of these users are on iOS, and power users on macOS engage with the app approximately twice as frequently as other platforms. At I/O 2026, Google previewed the rollout of 60+ new regional dialects for Gemini.

Additionally, 63% of users are now conversing directly with Gemini, with an increasing number of "voice only" users. With Gemini Live, one in five interactions extends beyond voice to utilize live camera and screen sharing.

The app generates over 150 million images daily, and Google is introducing more study features in the coming weeks. On Android, Gemini is facilitating task automation across 40 apps, with additional updates planned for Made by Google 2026.
