Ganeshotsav 2026: 'Large Artificial Ganesh Immersion Pond To Be Built At August Kranti Maidan,' Says Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha

Mumbai, August 11, 2026: Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has instructed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to construct an expansive artificial immersion pond at August Kranti Maidan for the upcoming Ganeshotsav. Lodha announced these plans at a coordination meeting with Ganeshotsav mandals from the Malabar Hill constituency, attended by over 70 mandal representatives, BMC officials, and representatives from various agencies.

The purpose of this large-scale artificial pond, with a height of five to six feet, is to cater to the needs of devotees who wish to immerse large Ganesh idols during the festival while minimizing environmental impact. The minister also proposed establishing a single-window system for Ganesh mandals to obtain necessary permissions and ensuring smooth transportation for devotees visiting Khetwadi from various parts of the country.

Additionally, the BMC will undertake repairs along procession routes, trim dangerous tree branches, and remove unnecessary cable wires from roads. A WhatsApp group will be created to provide timely information about high and low tides, and arrangements will be made for increased lifeguard presence at Girgaon Chowpatty and along the seashore.
