Exclusive-Alpha Compute to buy Pennsylvania land, gas rights for $55 million data center campus, company says

Alpha Compute has reached an agreement to purchase land and natural gas rights in Pennsylvania for $55 million to construct a 200-megawatt data center campus, according to CEO Brittany Kaiser. The company aims to commence operations at the site in the third quarter of 2027, with potential expansion to generate one gigawatt of power.

Pennsylvania's Marcellus shale basin, existing power infrastructure, and proximity to major East Coast population centers have made it an attractive location for new data centers. The project would involve natural gas-fired power generation and is part of a growing trend as utilities seek to rapidly connect large AI facilities to the grid.

The deal includes mineral rights covering 1,800 acres of undeveloped Marcellus gas, and the acquisition remains subject to due diligence, financing, permitting, and final agreements. Local approvals are required, and so far, communities have been receptive to the proposal.
