Examining Mecca pact impact on national security, will protect interests, says MEA

New Delhi: India is scrutinizing the ramifications of the recently concluded Mecca pact involving Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey through the lens of national security and regional stability, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The agreement, finalized recently, has prompted the MEA to closely monitor the situation in the West Asia conflict.

Speaking on the matter, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that the pact will be evaluated from the standpoint of India's national security and regional peace and stability. The spokesperson reiterated India's unwavering commitment to safeguarding its national interests and taking any requisite actions to ensure those interests are protected.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey recently inked a trilateral defense agreement aimed at bolstering collective security in the wake of ongoing instability in West Asia, stemming from the Iran-related conflict. The pact was signed during a joint defense summit attended by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Pakistan's foreign ministry outlined that the agreement is rooted in the three nations' historical ties, shared strategic interests, and longstanding defense cooperation. It stipulates that an armed attack on any one of the countries will be treated as an attack against all three. Furthermore, the pact aims to enhance collective deterrence and foster peace, security, and stability in the region and beyond.
