Efunkoya U-15 Table Tennis Tournament Opens with Two-day Clinic

The Adegboyega Efunkoya Sports Foundation has launched the 7th edition of the National U-15 Table Tennis Championships, kicking off with a two-day clinic at the National Stadium's indoor hall from August 11 to 12. This preparatory event aims to refine participants' skills, including strokes, footwork, and tactics, while fostering discipline and innovation.

The main tournament is scheduled to unfold from August 13 to 15, during which young athletes will vie for the title of champions. Over 100 participants are expected to take part in the clinic, which incorporates physical conditioning and contemporary training methods to prepare players for competitive challenges.

Babatunde Obisanya, the Foundation's Chairman and a former national team coach, highlighted the clinic's significance: "We are thrilled by the support we've received from stakeholders worldwide—former players in the diaspora, administrators, and enthusiasts who share our vision. Our aim is to uphold the legacy of Dr. Adegboyega Efunkoya, ensuring players balance their athletic pursuits with education.

Each year, we introduce new innovations, and this year is no exception. Our commitment extends beyond competition to supporting the education of top-performing athletes."

Since its establishment, the championship has nurtured exceptional talents for Nigeria’s national teams. Notable alumni include Matthew Kuti, who now plays for Nigeria's senior squad and Africa's U-19 champion, Khadijat Musa, and the Ayoola siblings—Umar, Usman, and Kabirat—who currently compete at the junior level for Nigeria. The Adegboyega Efunkoya Sports Foundation remains committed to preserving Dr. Efunkoya's vision, which transformed table tennis in Nigeria.

The Foundation continues to promote the sport among junior players in primary and secondary schools, with the ultimate goal of placing Nigeria among the world’s top ten table tennis nations.
