Donegal All-Ireland winner James McHugh dies in crash

Former Donegal footballer James McHugh and his wife Noreen tragically died in a road accident on the N3 road in Co Cavan, Ireland, on a recent afternoon. James, a native of Cill Chartha, was a key player in Donegal's 1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship-winning team. He played as left half forward and scored a point in the final against Dublin.

Noreen, a passenger in their car, was seriously injured and later died in hospital. The van driver, a man in his 50s, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. James was a dedicated husband and father, having won multiple titles including the All Star in 1992, two Ulster championships, and a Railway Cup with Ulster.

He was also a club captain who led his team to success in 1990 and 2024. The Donegal GAA community and local politicians have paid tribute to McHugh, lauding his contributions to both the sport and the community.
