DCI dismisses Gachagua’s claims as ‘ridiculous’, demands evidence

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya has rejected allegations made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, describing them as "ridiculous, ill-intended, and wholly without foundation." Gachagua accused security agencies of covering up crimes and interfering in investigations. The DCI challenged those making the allegations to provide credible evidence instead of making unverified claims aimed at undermining public trust in law enforcement.

The agency emphasized that it does not facilitate or conceal criminal activity and strictly adheres to the law, the Constitution, and evidence-based investigations. The DCI responded to Gachagua's claims in the wake of his accusations against security agencies for protecting suspects linked to several killings, abductions, and disappearances, including the murder of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso and Nathan Wasama.

The agency denied facilitating or participating in any criminal conduct, stating that its investigations are guided by evidence, the Constitution, and the law. The DCI also rejected Gachagua's claims that political affiliation or public prominence influences investigations, asserting that no individual is above the law. The investigative agency reported progress in the Mutiso murder investigation, with remaining suspects actively pursued, and highlighted ongoing investigations into other murders, including those of Reverend Julius Ndumia Ngari and businessman Nathan Masai Wasama.

The DCI emphasized its commitment to working with other constitutional institutions to ensure accountability and respect for the rule of law.
