Cricketer Abhishek Porel arrested by Bengal Police on rape charges

Bengal cricketer Abhishek Porel was arrested by police on Tuesday in connection with allegations of rape and other violent acts against a young medical student. Porel, who played for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, was taken into custody from Emami City outside Kolkata and remanded to police custody for three days.

The young woman, a medical student from Karnataka, had filed a complaint alleging that Porel forcibly engaged in a sexual relationship with her and confined her against her will, causing her severe physical and emotional distress. Porel has denied all allegations and was picked up by police under a court order to seize his electronic devices to prevent the distribution of private images and data.
