Couple feels flush after porta-potty scare

Two Winnipeg seniors, Ed and Helen Toews, were involved in a bizarre accident on the Trans-Canada Highway while traveling to their cottage. On Monday afternoon, as they drove past a truck, a porta-potty fell from the bed of the vehicle and collided with their car. The 87-year-old Ed was in the passenger seat when the green flash of the toilet struck the front of their Ford Escape, triggering airbags and causing extensive damage.

Helen, the 80-year-old driver, was speeding at 90 km/h when the incident occurred. The truck driver apologized, claiming the secure straps used for the porta-potty may have been faulty. Despite the bizarre sequence of events, both seniors only sustained minor injuries, and the toilet was empty, sparing them from a more serious situation.

The pair received a lift back to Kenora, and later, they submitted a claim to Manitoba Public Insurance. However, their car is likely to be a write-off. The incident has left the couple with a humorous story to share and a reminder to appreciate their safety.
