Chinese family protests after son dies in fatal stabbing in Pattaya

A Chinese national lost his life following a fatal stabbing in Pattaya on Saturday, August 8th. The victim, 20-year-old Cao Ke, met with a 21-year-old Thai woman named Kanyarat, who worked within the yacht industry. The incident took place in their shared room at a three-story accommodation in the Na Jomtien subdistrict.

Policing authorities reported that Cao had suffered a severe stab wound to his right chest and two additional cuts to his right arm. Rescuers rushed to the scene but were unsuccessful in saving his life, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Kanyarat, who sustained a hand injury and had bloodstains, did not provide a statement to the rescue workers and requested privacy after contacting her boyfriend, Thanachot Sriphet, who was later identified as the perpetrator.

Thanachot, a 20-year-old Thai male, claimed he had intended to take a shower at the accommodation before attending university. He entered the room after obtaining a key and discovered Cao hiding inside. According to his account, Thanachot had requested an explanation before administering a non-fatal threat with a knife. However, the confrontation escalated into a physical struggle, leading to Cao's fatal injury.

After recognizing Cao's injury, Thanachot left the premises and contacted his mother, who advised him to surrender to the police.

Cao's family expressed their outrage by staging a protest outside Pattaya Provincial Court on Sunday, August 10th. They demanded stronger safety measures for foreign nationals and a thorough investigation into the case. The family's signs emphasized the urgent need for the Thai government to take action to protect the personal and property rights of foreign nationals in Thailand.
