CBS announces Week 1 changes to 2026 NFL broadcast booths

On Tuesday, CBS Sports convened its media days and faced the Tony Romo scandal head-on, addressing the disruption it caused to the broadcasting schedule. J.J. Watt was promoted to lead the booth with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson, following Romo's indefinite suspension due to an OWI arrest. CBS's flexibility in booth pairings was highlighted by the fact that Ian Eagle has worked with various announcers, including Dan Fouts, Charles Davis, and now Watt, and continues to improve the overall broadcast quality.

Eagle was paired with Ross Tucker and Evan Washburn, who have previously collaborated on Westwood One's Thursday Night Football broadcasts. Initially, there was speculation that Tucker might replace Andrew Catalon in the fourth booth, but Romo's arrest altered those plans. Tucker has been an integral part of CBS's NFL rotation since the 2023 season, working alongside Tom McCarthy, and also handles college football and radio duties for Westwood One’s Thursday Night Football coverage.

Logan Ryan, a former New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans player, was chosen for the Catalon booth after shadowing Jim Nantz and Tony Romo for a week. Ryan, who will join other CBS analysts in the NFL Today crew or replace Bill Cowher on The NFL Today+, was also added to the sixth broadcast booth alongside Tom McCarthy and Tiffany Blackmon, replacing Ross Tucker.

Luke Kuechly, a contributor to Netflix’s No. 1 game analyst, was also placed in a similar role, while Darius Slay will join as a studio analyst. The remaining booths will remain unchanged, with Kevin Harlan, Trent Green, Melanie Collins, Spero Dedes, Adam Archuleta, and Aditi Kinkhabwala continuing their roles. Additionally, Mackenize Brooks, who joined CBS as the lead HQ Analyst of Inside the Lines, will also be part of the network’s NFL coverage.
