Cash-at-residence row: Inquiry report on Justice Yashwant Varma to be tabled in Lok Sabha

An inquiry committee's report on allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma for the discovery of unaccounted cash in his official residence will be presented in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The report, consisting of two volumes along with oral evidence, will be laid before the House by the Secretary General. The probe panel submitted its findings to the Lok Sabha Speaker in May, following a three-member inquiry committee's formation on August 12, 2025.

The controversy began on March 14, 2025, when a fire broke out in Justice Varma's Delhi bungalow. Firefighters discovered a significant amount of burnt currency in a storeroom during their efforts to extinguish the blaze. Justice Varma subsequently resigned, but his removal proceedings have not yet been finalized. The Allahabad High Court, which he previously served, repatriated him to his parent court following the controversy.
