BRS flays Congress, BJP’s silence on national project status to PRLIS

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has criticized Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their silence on the national project status of Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS). Rama Rao stated that the eight MPs each from Congress and BJP proved to be ineffective when the issue of national project status for PRLIS was raised in the Lok Sabha. He expressed disappointment over the lack of strong support for PRLIS in the national project status discussions.

Rama Rao alleged that Congress had unjustly denied Telangana national project status for its projects, while granting the same status to Polavaram in Andhra Pradesh during the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. The central government had informed Parliament that it was not providing national project status to PRLIS, while granting it to projects like Ken-Betwa, Polavaram, and Upper Bhadra.

The BRS leader criticized the government's decision, pointing out that the Varuna Yagam performed by the government aimed to divert people's attention from the issue. He warned that if the proposed cancellation of approvals for seven Telangana projects remains on the agenda during the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) meeting, BRS would boycott the meeting and intensify its agitation to protect the state's irrigation rights.
