Brandon Sanderson Is Done With the Mistborn Screenplay, but Says 'There Are Many Drafts to Come'

Brandon Sanderson has officially completed the first draft of the Mistborn screenplay, though he clarifies it is merely the initial step in an extended process. The author, known for his prolific output, has been moving swiftly on the project since its announcement in February. Sanderson recently reiterated his commitment to gathering substantial feedback from editors and representatives of Apple TV, stating that many more drafts are on the horizon.

This implies that the feedback phase is likely to be lengthy, potentially delaying the start of the second draft. Despite the anticipated delay, Sanderson has already begun focusing on his next literary endeavor, Ghost Bloods, which will serve as the first book in Mistborn Era 3. Scheduled for release in 2028, this new entry in the Cosmere universe will take place much later in the timeline than its predecessors.

In the meantime, Sanderson has announced a new series, Rift Wake, set to launch on September 1. This series, akin to his popular Skyward saga, will receive a television adaptation from the same studio behind the live-action One Piece show. While no streaming platform has been confirmed yet, the impending release of Rift Wake signals Sanderson's intent to expand his reach into the realm of television, similar to how he has successfully transitioned into the world of cinema with the Mistborn screenplay.
