Andalusia, in the government's spotlight over male violence

At four fifteen on Monday afternoon, a man called the emergency services in San Pedro de Alcántara after his neighbor told him he had killed his partner. When the health services arrived at the house in this town in Málaga, they found her body with stab wounds. On Tuesday, the National Police arrested the man, who first confessed to his neighbor and then to the agents.

He is 58 years old. She was 35 and is the seventh woman killed since June in Andalusia. And it is in this region that the Ministry of Equality has been focusing its attention for a couple of weeks.

The seven femicides in Málaga

With the femicide on Monday in San Pedro de Alcántara, seven women have already been killed in the province of Málaga since last June. The previous one occurred on July 21, when a man stabbed a woman with whom he had had a two-year relationship in Benahavís with a cutter and, after being arrested, confessed that he did it after seeing her kissing another man.

A day earlier, a 30-year-old young woman was found dead with stab wounds in Antequera just after her partner, whom she had reported for ill-treatment, took his own life.

At the beginning of the month, a 61-year-old woman and her 31-year-old daughter were also killed with a knife, although their bodies were found burned by a fire.

Shortly after, a man, the sentimental partner of the mother, was detained as the alleged perpetrator of two murders and robbery with violence within the scope of gender violence.

Before that, on July 1, the Civil Guard arrested three people after finding the body of a 35-year-old young woman inside a well in Rincón de la Victoria.

One of them, the victim's partner, confessed to having killed her with a knife and then hiding her body, a woman who was reported missing in March.

And in June, a 51-year-old woman died from shots fired by her partner, who also took his own life.

In the figures for Spain as a whole, in addition to this murder, still under investigation, so far this year, 36 women have been killed by their partners or ex-partners.

Since the official statistics began in 2003, 1,377 women have been killed.

And there are now 26 minors who are orphans or orphaned this year due to this violence, 536 since they were recorded in 2013.
