Abia will not serve as safe haven for criminal elements – New CP

Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Wilfred Afolabi, has declared that the state will not serve as a safe haven for criminal elements. He spoke during his inaugural briefing with senior officers of the police command. Afolabi vowed to lead an accountable, professional, and intelligence-driven force dedicated to protecting lives and property across Abia.

He emphasized his commitment to integrity, enforcing the law without bias, and safeguarding the welfare of every resident. Afolabi cautioned officers against engaging in extortion, corruption, and any behavior that could tarnish the command's reputation. He stressed that accountability and professionalism were non-negotiable principles for the force.

The CP highlighted intelligence-led policing as the foundation of the command's strategy and directed comprehensive training for officers in areas such as intelligence gathering, investigations, crime mapping, crime prevention, human rights, electoral laws, and emotional intelligence. He also stressed the importance of continuous professional development and mentoring to ensure officers were fully prepared for their duties.

Afolabi urged officers to enhance collaboration with community stakeholders and sister security agencies, recognizing that public trust was essential for effective security. Despite maintaining a civil demeanor, officers must remain firm, disciplined, and courageous in upholding the law. The commissioner commended Governor Alex Otti for his efforts in advancing development and security, reaffirming the command's willingness to work closely with other security agencies.

In closing, Afolabi affirmed that Abia will not provide a sanctuary for criminals, vowing to intensify intelligence-driven policing to combat crime and bolster public confidence in the police force.
