2027: Why we formed G100 — Salihu Lukman

Salihu Lukman, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has shed light on the motivation behind the establishment of the G100 coalition. In an interview on Arise Television’s 'Morning Show,' Lukman emphasized the coalition's aim is to prompt Nigerian leaders to heed the concerns of the populace. G100 represents a unified front of various opposition leaders, who are jointly set to propose a single presidential candidate in the upcoming 2027 general elections, challenging President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lukman stressed that the coalition's efforts are encouraging and that opposition parties will present a candidate to the Nigerian electorate. Speaking on the common ground they are seeking to establish, he stated that by next week, following the G100 meeting, the group will be better positioned to discuss their priorities and potential policies.

Lukman clarified that they did not form G100 with the intent to dictate to leaders but rather to facilitate a constructive dialogue. The coalition's primary objective is to encourage leaders to address the issues that are troubling Nigerians, thereby instilling confidence in the opposition's seriousness and commitment to the nation's well-being.

In a statement, G100 acknowledged the challenges ahead, but they remain steadfast in their dedication. Lukman reiterated the coalition's belief that Nigeria should come first, above personal ambitions or interests. He expressed confidence that the opposition will present a more formidable and better solution to the electorate, acknowledging that while the path forward is not straightforward, the commitment to bring about meaningful change remains unwavering.
