Zelensky announces personnel changes in army: Some decisions already finalized, with more to come

President Zelensky addressed a Facebook post announcing personnel changes within the Ukrainian Army. During a recent meeting with key military officials, including Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi, Chief of General Staff Ihor Skybiuk, and acting Minister of Defense Yevhenii Khmara, discussions centered around military matters, particularly personnel proposals. Zelensky confirmed that some decisions on personnel changes have already been prepared, with more to follow.

The president highlighted the importance of reinforcing critical sectors, especially in the Donetsk region. Zelensky expressed gratitude to various units for their successful defense efforts in areas like Slovyansk, Kostiantynivka, and Dobropillia. He also emphasized the accomplishments of Airborne Assault Forces in active operations, vowing to provide troops with enhanced operational capabilities.

The meeting touched upon the implementation of sanctions against Russia and middle strikes, with updates on approved operations and adjustments to existing strategies.

A significant portion of the discussion centered on air defense, with Zelensky stressing the necessity of protecting frontline and border towns, regional centers, and the capital. He urged Ukraine's diplomatic team to secure military capabilities needed to counter Russian aggression, stressing the critical role of air defense in safeguarding Ukraine's sovereignty.

Zelensky reiterated his commitment to a modernized Defense Forces system, coordinated to prevent Russian exploitation of changes. On July 21, Zelensky appointed Drapatyi as the new commander-in-chief and restructured the General Staff, dismissing Oleksandr Syrskyi and Andrii Hnatov in the process.
