Who ordered firing on students? Don’t want Amit Shah’s fantasy conversation: Rahul Gandhi

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju reiterated on Monday that the government is prepared for a parliamentary discussion on police action against protesters on July 20, and that Home Minister Amit Shah is prepared to respond. Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi demanded that Shah first answer the question, "Who ordered the firing on students?"

Gandhi stated that the public is not interested in Shah's "fantasy conversations" and that students should note that neither Shah nor Prime Minister Narendra Modi have "the courage to comment on what happened to the students in Delhi on July 20." Following a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting of the Lok Sabha, Rijiju stated that the government is ready for a full-fledged debate on student and youth protests across the country, as well as on police actions.

He emphasized that the Home Minister would provide a point-by-point response on behalf of the government. The Opposition, however, required assurances that they would participate in the debate peacefully and without disrupting proceedings. At a press conference at Indira Bhavan on Monday evening, Gandhi clarified that the question was not about Shah delivering a general speech in Parliament, but about Shah clarifying who authorized the shooting of young protesters in Delhi.

He accused Shah of being either guilty of ordering the firing or incompetent for not being aware of it. Gandhi outlined three conditions for the Opposition: an apology from Prime Minister Modi, a discussion on the alleged theft during the construction of the Ram Temple, and an answer regarding the firing on students. He expressed frustration that neither Modi nor Shah have had the courage to address the issue in Parliament, emphasizing the need for accountability and an explanation from Shah about his role in the events of July 20.
