Wee bangkit isu Dara, Amoi dan Kelat pada sidang Parlimen akan datang

Ayer Hitam Wee Ka Siong, the MCA president, has announced that he plans to bring up the issue of three elephants - Dara, Amoi, and Kelat - during the upcoming parliamentary session starting on October 5th. These elephants were transferred from Zoo Taiping in Malaysia to Zoo Tennoji in Osaka, Japan, in March. Wee emphasized the need for clear explanations and decisive action to ensure the well-being of these elephants.

He requested that the government address five key points in a memorandum presented by Neow Choo Seong, the MCA's youth affairs publicity chief, who had traveled from Taiping, Perak, to Kuala Lumpur to deliver it. The points include the formation of a special task force, an independent assessment mission to Japan, a 25-year transfer agreement, a review of standards, contingency plans, and repatriation rights.

The elephants are not just three individuals sent abroad, but part of Malaysia's natural heritage. Therefore, any decisions regarding their future must prioritize their welfare, safety, and importance. Dara, Amoi, and Kelat arrived at Tennoji Zoo on March 11th and have been on display since April 21st. The transfer is not a commercial venture but a formal cooperation between the two zoos.

On May 6th, Tennoji Zoo displayed photos of the three elephants, which were claimed to be in good condition. On June 22nd, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (SPRM) announced that it had opened an investigation into the transfer of the three elephants, focusing on the Ministry of Rural and Environment, the Wildlife and National Parks Department, and the involved agents in the transfer.

SPRM Chairman Abd Halim Aman stated on July 9th that the investigation found no evidence of any financial transactions or suspicious dealings involving former Deputy Prime Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad or the related company.
