Vijayan alleges harassment, politically motivated transfers of public servants under UDF govt

Thiruvananthapuram - Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan alleged on Monday that government employees across the state were facing alarming conditions due to the actions of the ruling government and associated organisations. In a Facebook post, he referred to the death of Ashalatha, a senior clerk at the Kasaragod Collectorate, claiming that the mental strain from a compulsory transfer post-change of government led to her suicide.

Vijayan also cited the case of K V Radhamani, a paediatrician at the Kannur Government Medical College, who allegedly suffered a heart attack after being humiliated by NGO Association leaders for refusing to sign an illegal transfer order. He accused the government of allowing such gangs to operate under its protection and called for the parties to curb such misconduct.

The leader alleged that the civil service had been disrupted by mass transfers carried out without proper procedure, for political reasons. Vijayan also criticized the UDF government for dismissing temporary workers at government institutions, withholding dearness allowance arrears, assured pension, and earning leave surrender benefits, and targeting teachers dismissed in mass layoffs.

He termed the chief minister's claim that the previous Left government failed to provide benefits to government employees as "utterly absurd," noting that the LDF government had taken steps to address employee grievances.
