Video: Teenage moped driver's high-speed takedown

A video circulating online has sparked controversy in Finland after showing an unmarked police vehicle colliding with a teenage moped rider. The incident, which transpired in Tuusula, a suburb of Helsinki, left the teenager with injuries that were not life-threatening after being propelled into a ditch by the high-speed police car.

The footage, posted on YouTube over the weekend, has sparked debate about police conduct and the application of force. Many smaller Finnish communities rely on mopeds for young people's first experiences of independent travel. These events, known as "moped rallies," are common but can sometimes generate noise complaints and prompt police responses.

The police confirmed that the car involved in the collision on Saturday was not dispatched to the scene; instead, three or four patrols were operating in the area at the time. However, the exact number of units present at the crash site remains unspecified. The events leading up to the filming of the collision are unclear. Authorities have now launched two separate investigations: one probing the actions of the officer involved and another scrutinizing the moped driver's conduct.

The incident has left young people in the area distressed. A local resident, Aapo Hyttinen, expressed shock at the event, stating that it was strange that the police would take such actions.
