US judge dismisses criminal case against Indian billionaire Adani

In a recent development, a US judge has dismissed criminal charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani. The charges, filed in 2024, pertained to allegations of bribery of Indian officials and misleading US investors regarding Adani Group's anti-corruption practices. The decision to drop the charges came after the US Department of Justice announced it would no longer pursue the case, citing it as foreign, difficult to prove, and not aligned with their current priorities.

Judge Nicholas Garaufis granted the prosecutors' request to dismiss the case, noting they provided him with insufficient information about their decision. Adani had promised to invest $10 billion in the US before the charges were unsealed, and he has consistently denied any wrongdoing. Adani's lawyers stated that the pledge might be part of a resolution to the case, but the justice department denied this claim.
