Umahi seeks Sanwo-Olu’s support for Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway service lanes

Federal Works Minister Dave Umahi has called upon Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to provide financial backing for the creation of service lanes and drainage systems on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. In a meeting on Sunday, Umahi urged the governor to contribute funds to complement the main highway, emphasizing the need for joint efforts to benefit the public.

The minister praised the Lagos state government for its collaboration on federal projects, noting that their partnership is crucial for the successful completion of these initiatives. Umahi also revealed that construction of service lanes and secondary drainage channels along Sections 1 and 2 of the project will commence soon, as urgent action is required following recent heavy rains and flooding in certain parts of Lagos.

The minister reported that Lot 1 of the coastal highway construction is complete, while Lot 2 is 80% complete, with over 30% of the work completed in Calabar and Akwa Ibom. He expressed optimism about meeting the project's timeline and appealed to residents, stakeholders, and Nigerians to continue supporting the highway's development.

Umahi expressed worry over the vandalism of federal infrastructure and warned that such actions would hinder progress and waste the efforts of those involved. He urged residents and stakeholders to protect public infrastructure, stressing that properly constructed roads can last for decades, while damaged roads risk reverting to previous conditions.
