Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Danish counterpart, Mette Frederiksen, have issued a joint statement in which they reject “uncontrolled immigration” and call for deportation centers in third countries. “We do not accept uncontrolled immigration to Europe and have promoted a rigorous immigration policy, both in our countries and in Europe,” the statement reads.

Italy introduced controls at airports and ports for travelers from Spain following events in Ceuta and subsequently the Spanish Government, in the face of Italy's refusal to lift them, imposed the same measure for those arriving from Italy.

Monday marks 11 days since the massive entry of immigrants into Ceuta on July 30 and the inhabitants of the autonomous city continue to demand a solution from the Government and European authorities. “Ceuta is not for sale. Ceuta is Spain,” was one of the most repeated phrases on Sunday at a rally convened by religious associations and neighbors in which the “abandonment” of the Pedro Sánchez's Government was criticized.
