UK couple held in Iran end hunger strikes — Family

British couple Lindsay and Craig Foreman, both in their early 50s, have ended their most recent hunger strikes after months of protesting their treatment in Iranian prison. The couple, who were detained in January 2025 while on a round-the-world motorcycle journey, were sentenced to a decade in prison on espionage charges, with two additional years added to Craig Foreman's term for speaking with the media.

Their hunger strike began in May, driven by concerns over the severe physical toll their detention was taking. Craig Foreman managed to go 93 days without food, while his wife lasted 84 days. Despite their persistence, the couple decided to conclude their hunger strikes, converting the final five days into a "fast for good" aimed at shifting the focus to a constructive and collective effort, highlighting the plight of others imprisoned in Iran.

The family's statement, released on Monday, emphasized the couple's continued health and welfare, as well as the ongoing challenge of securing their release after over 18 months in detention. The situation has become particularly complicated as the UK embassy in Iran was shut down in July and now functions remotely. The couple's family is also worried about the potential implications of the ongoing US conflict with Iran on their case.
