Two families adopt animals under IGZP’s Animal Adoption Programme

The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) has welcomed two new families into its Animal Adoption Programme. V. Nishkala Nakshatra celebrated her birthday by adopting a spotted deer and a star tortoise, alongside her spouse V. Aarick Nihal, who pledged to adopt a meerkat for a year. The couple contributed ₹50,000 towards the cause.

Meanwhile, a family from Uttar Pradesh, captivated by the scheme during a zoo visit, decided to adopt a red-necked wallaby for a year and a leopard for a month, pledging ₹32,000. IGZP Curator G. Mangamma revealed that such donations are eligible for tax exemption under Section 80G(5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. It is stipulated that comments must be in English, full sentences, non-abusive, non-personal, and adhering to community guidelines.
