TUSAAG declares solidarity with GAUA, backs ongoing strike over pay disparities

The Technical University Senior Administrators’ Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has expressed unequivocal solidarity with the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) in response to the ongoing strike over pay disparities. In a statement released on August 9, 2026, TUSAAG’s National President, Stanley Akamiri Abopaam, affirmed the organization’s backing for GAUA’s industrial action.

Both associations submitted a joint proposal for the negotiation of conditions of service, but it was rejected due to what the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) termed transitional limitations. The associations subsequently agreed upon an interim allowance to address the pay disparities, which TUSAAG and GAUA both believe affects their respective members adversely.

TUSAAG views this dispute as inseparable from its own concerns and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting GAUA throughout the strike. The association emphasized that such actions are rarely taken unless negotiations stall and members' interests cannot be adequately protected via dialogue. TUSAAG invited relevant authorities and stakeholders to engage GAUA promptly and sincerely to resolve the issues at hand.

The organization commended GAUA’s leadership for their steadfast dedication to their members’ welfare and urged other stakeholders in the tertiary education sector to facilitate a swift and equitable resolution to the dispute.
