Trump says US to seek compensation from Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will seek compensation from Iran following Tehran's request for reimbursement of damages caused by the U.S. and Israel during a prolonged conflict. In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump noted that Iran had not previously mentioned this demand during any previous negotiations or meetings.

He vowed to demand compensation from Iran for the lives of those killed and wounded by Iranian roadside bombs and various conflicts, including the families of those killed on the USS Cole and the thousands killed in combat. Trump further stated that Iran should compensate the families of protesters killed in Iran over the past five decades and the 52,000 killed in the last five months.

He added that he had instructed his representatives to incorporate this demand into any future negotiations.

Trump also revealed that Washington is relying on economic pressure rather than military strikes to persuade Iran to reach a deal. He stated that the U.S. is taking a more cautious approach after months of conflict and that they are only "semi-negotiating" with Tehran while monitoring the impact of the war on Iran's economy. Trump claimed that Iran is in "very bad shape" financially, citing high inflation and difficulties in paying its own troops.

He credited the U.S. naval blockade in place since April with intensifying this pressure. Trump also mentioned that falling oil prices, now just above $75 a barrel, have alleviated the economic impact on American consumers. He concluded by saying, "It will work out. It always works out. It's like a chess game."
