Trump says US has mine-swept 'entire' Strait of Hormuz, claims strait is open

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the U.S. Navy has thoroughly swept the entire Strait of Hormuz, asserting that the strategic waterway is now fully open and under U.S. control. Speaking at a press event at the White House, Trump stated, "The only one that has control of the Strait of Hormuz right now is the U.S. Navy." He emphasized the effectiveness of the blockade, describing it as "a steel wall."

The president claimed that the U.S. Navy has meticulously searched the strait for mines, stating, "We have mine-swept the entire strait, as you probably maybe heard." While acknowledging that occasional mines may still be dropped, Trump assured that the mines are promptly detected and removed. He concluded by noting that the strait is currently "open for others (except for Iran)."
