Troops neutralise scores of terrorists in Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) successfully neutralized numerous terrorists in the Gajiram area of Nganzai Local Government, Borno State. Captain Mohammed Goni, the acting Military Information Officer, reported that around 12:20 am on August 10, 2026, a significant number of terrorists launched an assault to overrun the troops' position.

The troops responded with determined and effective fire, forcing the attackers to retreat after suffering heavy losses. During the engagement, the troops captured and destroyed several weapons, ammunition, and communication devices from the terrorists. Post-engagement analysis of surveillance footage confirmed multiple terrorist casualties were evacuated by the retreating group.

A few troops sustained injuries during the engagement; the damage was limited to a temporary breach in defense, causing slight harm to combat enablers and vehicles from rocket-propelled grenade fire. The injured were airlifted to stable medical care. Post the attack, troops remain deployed in and around the Forward Operating Base (FOB) and surrounding areas to maintain dominance, monitor the situation, and deter any further terrorist re-engagements.

Residents and local communities in and around Gajiram are advised to remain calm and conduct their lawful activities as usual. The public is encouraged to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security agencies.
