On Monday, August 10th, thousands of residents in Ceuta protested against the migrant crisis affecting the autonomous city. The demonstration, organized by Ceuta's four religious communities (Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Hindu), saw an estimated 10,000 attendees, though the National Police reported a figure of 5,000. The protesters called for the central government to increase involvement in the migration crisis, reinforce the National Police and Civil Guard, enhance border control with Morocco, and provide relief to migrants residing in Ceuta.

Italy criticized Spain's decision to impose Schengen border controls following the influx of migrants from Morocco on July 30th. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called Spain's move "incomprehensible and totally unacceptable," stating that the suspension of the Schengen agreement was necessary due to the "extraordinary" situation in Ceuta. Tajani expressed hope that Spain would lift the border controls soon once the risk to public safety had subsided.

A report by Spain's Ministry of Housing revealed that nearly 8 million Spaniards do not have a primary residence, accounting for 28.6% of the country's 7.7 million non-primary residences. This housing deficit is nearly ten times the 27 million primary residences in Spain, placing Spain among the top four European countries with the highest number of empty homes and second residences.

Meanwhile, the Fuente de Piedra Lagoon Natural Reserve in Málaga witnessed the ringling of around 600 greater flamingo chicks out of the 15,500 born this year. The high birth rate is attributed to the substantial rainfall recorded at the beginning of the year. The Fuente de Piedra lagoon, home to over 170 bird species, hosts the Iberian Peninsula's principal flamingo breeding site.
