Temperatures are reaching record highs, Egypt’s Meteorological Authority warns

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has issued a warning regarding an impending heatwave across much of Egypt during the day, accompanied by hot and humid conditions at night and early morning. Nighttime and early morning temperatures are expected to be slightly warm and humid throughout most regions, while daytime temperatures will be significantly hot and humid.

Satellite imagery suggests occasional wind activity from Wednesday to Saturday, potentially impacting areas such as South Sinai, the Red Sea, the western coast, Greater Cairo, and southern Egypt.

High humidity levels will amplify the perceived temperature by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius compared to the shade temperature, making the heat feel even more intense, particularly during the afternoon hours. Forecasted temperatures indicate a prolonged heatwave in southern Egypt, with the perceived maximum temperature in southern Upper Egypt reaching 44°C on certain days.

Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt are anticipated to experience maximum temperatures ranging between 37°C and 40°C, while northern coast areas will see temperatures between 34-38°C. Northern Upper Egypt is likely to experience between 40-42°C in maximum temperatures, making it the region most affected by the heatwave, with some spots reaching 43°C and a perceived temperature of 44°C.

The EMA has advised citizens to stay informed through weather bulletins and updates, given the extreme temperatures and humidity levels, and to exercise caution, especially while driving in areas experiencing fog.
