Tech-savvy Anubhava Mantapa expected to open in May 2027 in Basavakalyan

Anubhava Mantapa, a colossal monument under construction in Basavakalyan, Bidar district, is set to open in May 2027. The edifice, honoring the 12th-century philosopher, poet, and leader Basaveshwara, aims to preserve and promote the egalitarian ideals, reformist philosophy, and literary legacy of the Sharanas, or followers of Basaveshwara, in the Veerashaiva-Lingayat tradition. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar recently reviewed the project's progress.

With a cost exceeding ₹800 crore, the six-story structure spans nearly five acres and will be named 'Anubhava Mantapa — Monument of Democracy'. It is crowned by an 183-ft. Shivalinga-shaped dome and features 770 columns, each engraved with a Vachana from the 770 Sharanas of the 12th century. The monument also bears the names of 12,944 martyrs of India's freedom struggle and 74 democratic countries.

The monument's six floors represent the six stages of spiritual evolution, while its inner circular structure symbolizes the soul. The ground floor will house digital classrooms focused on Basavanna's Kayaka (dignity of labour) philosophy and modern skill development programs, including technology-oriented courses. The first floor will have 12 theatres showcasing the philosophy, history, and social reforms of the Sharanas through multimedia presentations.

The second floor will feature a Kayaka Museum with aptitude assessments and interactive exhibits. The third floor will include a Kayaka Village, meditation facilities, and a robotics centre. The fourth floor will serve as a Parliament hall, while the fifth floor will have a whispering gallery. The sixth floor will house one of the world's largest Shivalingas.
