Tamale Girls SHS commissions 70-seat ICT laboratory

Tamale Girls Senior High School (SHS) has recently unveiled and inaugurated a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory, boasting 70 computers, aimed at elevating digital education and empowering students with the requisite skills for the digital era. The project, spearheaded by Innovation Experience and HORLAP Innovations, was concluded under the rallying cry, “A Modern Lab Today, Digital Leaders Tomorrow.”

This facility is poised to offer students heightened access to digital resources and a conducive setting for practical ICT education, fostering a culture of innovation and technology-driven learning. During the official presentation ceremony, Kelvin Odour Aboagye, the Chief Executive Officer of HORLAP Innovations, implored students to transcend the conventional use of computers for typing, web browsing, and assignments.

Aboagye emphasized that these machines should be regarded as instruments for shaping futures, advocating for the exploration of avenues such as website development, engineering, cybersecurity, and other burgeoning technological domains. Upon receiving the equipment on behalf of the school, Ms Asha Asumah, the Headmistress of Tamale Girls SHS, extended heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors and other stakeholders for championing the project.

Asumah, however, leveraged the occasion to spotlight the myriad infrastructure and logistical hurdles confronting the school, appealing to stakeholders and the government to aid in addressing the lingering requirements. The school urgently needs an additional 18 classroom blocks and 30 dormitory blocks to revert to a single-track system.

Furthermore, Ms Asumah solicited assistance for vehicles to bolster transportation and other operational facets of the institution, including a school bus and a pickup. The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, the CEO of HORLAP Innovations, Kelvin Odour Aboagye, and the Headmistress of Tamale Girls SHS, Ms Asha Asumah, were recognized for their contributions to the initiative.

The newly commissioned ICT laboratory is anticipated to fortify practical ICT education at the school, endow students with pertinent digital proficiencies, and prepare them to thrive within Ghana’s burgeoning digital economy. The facility is poised to augment teaching and learning, nurturing a cadre of innovative students poised to emerge as tomorrow's leaders in technology.
